BBC & ITV
All the TV programmes received on the Sky Digital Satellite System are broadcast from the Astra 2 group of satellites. They are a group of satellites all within 1 km of each other; in a fixed geo-stationary orbit in space, (also known as the Clark Belt), approximately 35,000 km above the earth's equator. The BBC & ITV programmes that are shown on Sky are all broadcasted from the Astra 2d Satellite. This satellite beam is much more precisely directed at the UK, (known as a satellites footprint). All the BBC's TV programmes are broadcast free to air (FTA), not encrypted like a lot of the Sky TV channels.
To pick up the BBC and ITV channels here in Greece, along with a few other certain Sky channels, you usually require a satellite dish that is a minimum of 3 meters across. This is a very large satellite dish indeed. A great deal of consideration needs to be given as to where a satellite dish antenna of this size can be placed.
If you wish to receive satellite tv as you travel across Europe there is lots of helpful information and products at www.sky4caravans.co.uk.
We both supply and install 3.2 meter, 3.7 meter & 4.2 meter satellite dishes to pick up the BBC and ITV channels. (For more technical information on satellite dish antennas click here). Careful consideration needs to be given as to where a satellite dish of this size can be placed. Due to its size, it will need to have something very solid to be attached to. The surface area of a 3 meter dish is over 7 square meters. This size of dish acts like a small sail, and in a strong wind a lot of force is exerted onto to the dish. Hence the need for some where secure for it to be attached to. Even though under European Law you have The Right to Install a Satellite Dish Antenna, you will not be very popular with your neighbours if you place a large dish in view of their property.
It is very unusual for there to be a need to fit a 4.2 meter dish to receive the BBC and ITV channels. But we carry 3.7 meter & 4.2 meter satellite dish antennas with us. So in the unlikely event that a 3 meter dish is not receiving enough signal strength, we will have a larger dish available. So if you wish to watch the BBC and ITV channels, here in Greece, we would recommend you place an order for a 3 meter dish first. Then in the unlikely event that when we arrive a 3 meter dish is not receiving enough signal strength, we will then be able to supply and install a 3.7 meter or 4.2 meter satellite dish instead.
- The cost of the 3.0 meter satellite dish antenna is €1,795 fully fitted.
- The cost of the 3.7 meter satellite dish antenna is €2,195 fully fitted.
- The cost of the 4.2 meter satellite dish antenna is €2,850 fully fitted.
